Description: A panel will discuss the complexities associated with caring for our aging population, share some resources available to assist with our aging population, discuss the importance of estate planning and the challenges associated with navigating senior health care products. The panel will also share some resources available to caregivers.

Cost**: $20 for SCAHU members/ $50 for non-members.

About the Speakers: 

Barbara Franklin: For over a decade Barbara Franklin and her family dealt with the emotional and financial devastation caused by her father’s diagnosis of Alzheimer’s disease.  She knows what goes into caring for a loved one and has devoted her career to making it easier for people to find the resources they need.   Since 1990 she has been providing personalized service to her clients while providing educational programs on long term care and Medicare planning.   She earned the Long Term Care Professional Designation (LTCP) in 2008 and has been recognized as one of the nation’s “Top 100 Long Term Care Specialists”. Barbara is a Founder and Past President of the Lowcountry Senior Network and is a member of the National Aging in Place Council. 

Dana Wine: Dana R. Wine is originally from the Washington, D.C. area and relocated to South Carolina to attend college at the College of Charleston where she graduated cum laude with a B.S. in sociology in 2001. Dana attended Vanderbilt University Law School as an Honors Scholar, where she received her J.D. in 2004.

Upon graduation from Vanderbilt, Dana returned to Charleston and was admitted to the South Carolina Bar in 2004. She worked as an associate at the Bleecker Law Firm, LLC from 2004-2008 where she handled a variety of Family Court cases.  In 2008, Dana opened the Wine Law Firm, LLC, which was merged with partner Wendi M. Freeman in 2013 to form Freeman|Wine, LLC.  Dana currently focuses her practice on estate planning.  Dana is also a trained and certified Family Court Mediator.  She enjoys working with individual and families to assist them with meeting their estate planning and legacy objectives.

Dana is a member of the South Carolina Women Lawyers Association, the South Carolina Bar Family Court Section, and the Charleston County Bar Association. Dana is also member of WealthCounsel, a provider of estate planning knowledge and national network of estate planning attorneys.  She enjoys giving back to the community and volunteers as an attorney for Pro Bono Legal Services and received the Pro Bono Lawyer of the Year award from the Charleston County Bar in 2012.
